We are currently recruiting for diverse leaders to serve on Cempa Community Care's Board of Directors.

Leading the way in care for people living with HIV for thirty-four years, Cempa Community Care has expanded to become a Community Health Care Center to help ALL people fight ALL illnesses. Cempa provides treatment, prevention, and support services to those impacted with health disparities with a focus on primary and infectious disease care.

Our mission is to champion healthy communities by providing affordable, compassionate, and high-quality care through advancing comprehensive support services and person-centered best practices.

 Cempa Community Care has offered holistic care offering a range of services to those impacted by health disparities including:

  • Cempa Community Care Clinic provides primary and infectious disease care, nutritional counseling, mental health counseling, laboratory services, and health maintenance to the underserved population.

  • Syringe Trade and Education Program of TN (STEP TN) – our harm reduction program – distributes over 30,000 clean syringes a month, serving more than 2,000 people at our two locations in Chattanooga and Johnson City and through two mobile vans in rural communities.

  • Community Outreach provides advocacy and education to address health disparities for our underserved populations of Southeast Tennessee.

  • Prevention offers testing for HIV, HEP C, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis.

  • Mobile Clinic provides HIV and HEP C treatment, including primary care, risk assessment, and referrals.

  • Support Services coordinate a comprehensive continuum of care that links clients to case management, vision and dental, housing, transportation, and treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. 

A primary responsibility of serving on Cempa Community Care’s Board of Directors is to participate in the development of policy and major decision-making at board meetings held monthly. Other key responsibilities are to be active on an ongoing basis in at least one committee of the board, and to ensure that the organization has the resources that it needs to fulfill its mission.

A Cempa Board Member position may require a time commitment of up to four hours per month.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Is a partner with the Chief Executive Officer in achieving the organization’s mission.

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in healthcare, business, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.

  • A commitment to and understanding of Cempa Community Care’s clients, preferably based on experience.

  • Diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.

  • Personal qualities of compassion, empowerment, excellence, integrity, unity, and a passion for improving the lives of Cempa Community Care’s clients.
